Our
Mission & History
As
a non-profit organization, AMHF receives no tax monies and is
supported solely by air show appearances, membership
dues, fund raisers, and benefactor donations. Additionally,
we are always looking for aircraft components, technical data
and manuals, individual histories and photographs to assist our
restoration efforts and expand our museum. All donations to the
AMHF are tax-deductable contributions due to our 501.c(3) non-profit
status.
USS
Indianapolis Connection
It
was a Lockheed PV-1, predecessor of the extended range PV-2, flying
a routine patrol that discovered the survivors of the USS Indianapolis
on August 2nd, 1945. We have dedicated a page on our site to the
story of the sighting
which lead to their eventual rescue.
Additional
information about the USS Indianapolis and her survivors may be
found at the USS
Indianapolis Survivors Organization web site.

AMHF
Harpoon featured on NOVA
NOVA,
produced for PBS by the Science Unit at WGBH Boston, came
to the AMHF to film our PV-2 Harpoon. The ground,
inflight and dramatized footage they shot will be used as
part of a documentary on the PV-1 and it's role in WWII.
This program, "Last flight
of Bomber 31" aired on PBS stations nationwide in January,
2003. Copies of the program are available from the NOVA
web site.
